After “L’Albero del Riccio” (The Tree of the Hedgehog) , the
publication of “Le donne di Casa Gramsci” is a new achievement
for the association ONLUS – Antonio Gramsci House Museum. The
authoress is really attached to Gramsci’s house since her
childhood, because of the memories and the emotions linked to
the house, populated by so familiar people. In fact she’s
Gramsci’s nephew, because she’s Teresina’s daughter. Teresina
was the favourite sister of Antonio Gramsci, he had with her a
lot of affinity and shared with her games, books, cultural
interests. In this book Mimma Paulesu Quercioli remembers the
little Antonio, but also his women, that had had a so great
importance in his life, when he was a child and also when he
became a man. They live in old Ghilarza , in the house that held
them and saw them when they were children, and their life is
intertwined with that of other women linked to Gramsci, Giulia
and Tatiana. In the house that still continue to speak of
Anthony Gramsci, they felt desires, passions, lived moments of
joy, but also moment of pain and they followed with trepidation
the fates of their son and brother. In these lines every space
of the house is populated by family faces, and through the house
reverberate voices, sounds and known noises. There are the
voices of Peppina Marcias, of Grazietta, of Enima, of Teresina,
but also of the child of the house; these are the sounds and
noises of the I work of tireless women, active from morning to
evening, that contributed so much to the growth of Antonio, that
followed him, even though distant, in the studies, in the
illness, in the political appointment, in his wander in the
Italian prisons. They are always present, although sometimes are
incapable to understand the cause of the incarceration. They
will constitute for the prisoner a certain affective reality,
from which he will draw in the saddest moments of his existence.
These women's letters, rich of news, permit Gramsci to
remember, in the dark of the prison cell, that memories able to
vivify his existence. So every fact, every memory, every news
permits to break the isolation from the world and from life and
becomes consolation, the mean to bear the long exile from
liberty and to conquer a piece of life of a free man. The
visitor - we are certain - guided by the pages of this book,
will also be able to live that feelings and to imagine the house
that saw Gramsci when he was a little boy: this has been
attested by many of those people who have come to visit the
house. For all these motives the publication de "Le donne di
Casa Gramsci" constitutes a new achievement for the association
that for a long time strive in order to protect the memory of
Antonio Gramsci, even in his house, the house in which he moved
the first steps and matured the important awareness that
conducted him away from Ghilarza, beside the weak to fight for a
more equitable society. |
